I don’t recommend seeing this film with your significant other if they are in anyway insecure, you will not leave the theatre in a good way. It was non challant, not particularly sexyand felt uncomfortable but yet not predictable, so I was engaged enough to want know how it is going to end. The subject matter of this affair was not fancy or very romantic like typical films on an affair. Without the mood music it seemed somewhat sterile or maybe just too raw of a film for me. Maybe because there was no music in between blocks of dialogue to set a mood. The acting was good, but felt more theatrical than cinematic. This issue in Ellen’s life clearly becomes the catalyst for her actions with Travis and it is brought up several times throughout the film. Ellen is unable to get pregnant and her husband is 22 years older, so they have tension building because of her desire for children. These back stories are woven through the film without a clear message other than these two are dealing with issues. Then there is the story of Ellen and her husband looking to adopt. There are few other stories that run in the background of this story, Travis’ drummer died recently of alcohol poisoning. Progressively the two find ways to be together and begin having an affair.

After class they go for a walk, and it’s obvious there is sexual tension and he wants more.

Travis loves the idea and shows up a few days later to Ellen’s class. Ellen offers Travis a ride back to the city, tells him she is a yoga teacher and tells him to come to a class sometime. Two familiar faces: Matt McGorry( Orange is the New Black) who plays Travis and Amy Hargreaves ( Homeland) who plays Ellen on screen for How He Fell in Love. The affair continues after Henry returns, but guilt catches up with Ellen just as Travis, finally, acknowledges he feels something that matters. How He Fell in Love (Official Trailer) from Visit Films on Vimeo. When Travis meets slightly older, New York yoga instructor Ellen (“Homeland’s” Amy Hargreaves), whose much older husband Henry (“Mozart in the Jungle’s” Mark Blum) is in Florida closing out his mother’s estate, the younger folks quickly act on a mutual attraction.įor Ellen, it’s a thoroughly enjoyable physical release, and while he may not display as much enthusiasm, Travis isn’t complaining. We’re told he’s devastated by a bandmate’s death, but McGorry’s tightly held performance doesn’t allow too much revelation. Matt McGorry (“How to Get Away with Murder,” “Orange Is the New Black”) is depressed musician Travis. What writer/director Marc Meyers does zero-in on is full-bodied and passionate, however, sensitive to human needs and weaknesses without letting his wayward lovers off of any prominent hooks. The extra-marital romance “How He Fell in Love” leaves a few things unsaid and some key matters unexplored.
